Activated Alumina Adsorbent Desiccant Title

Activated Alumina Adsorbent Desiccant

Van Air's activated alumina is a porous form of aluminum oxide in the shape of a bead. The large surface area of activated alumina maximizes the adsorption of moisture vapors within the air stream. Due to the physical properties of this adsorbent desiccant, Van Air activated alumina does not change shape while adsorbing moisture, even once it has become 100% saturated.

Our activated alumina will not soften nor disintegrate when immersed in water. Van Air activated alumina desiccant is easily regenerated to its original adsorption capacity by purging with dry air in our heatless regenerative dryers.

Activated alumina desiccant is for use in all types of regenerative desiccant air dryers. Based upon dryer design and operating conditions, dew points to -40° F and lower may be achieved with Van Air activated alumina adsorbent desiccant. Our activated alumina desiccant is an excellent all purpose desiccant for drying compressed air, having high crush strength to eliminate downstream dusting.

Product Benefits

• High Adsorption Capacity - With a high surface area and excellent pore distribution, Van Air activated alumina has an extremely high water adsorption capacity. Therefore initial cost, energy consumption, and operating costs are reduced through smaller bed sizes and/or longer operating cycles.

• Resists Liquid Water - Since our activated alumina is more resistant to water, slugging due to the failure of aftercooler, separator, or drain trap will not easily degrade the activated alumina beads. The adsorption capacity of the desiccant can usually be restored after complete regeneration.

• Low Abrasion - Van Air activated alumina has a low abrasion factor which insures less dusting during tower depessurization and tower loading. The low abrasion property of our activated alumina also reduces pressure drop and the chance of plugging an afterfilter with dust.

• High Crush Strength - The high crush strength of Van Air activated alumina is important during loading of the desiccant towers. Therefore, activated alumina is an excellent prebed material when used with other types of desiccants.

• Uniform Bead Sizes - Van Air activated alumina is a uniformly sized bead. Therefore, it provides a low pressure drop to conserve energy.

1/8" (2-5mm) activated alumina is the bead size most frequently used in regenerative air dryers.

3/16" (4-8mm) activated alumina is the bead size used when pressure drop and surface area requirements fall between 1/8" and 1/4" desiccant material.

1/4" (5-10mm) activated alumina is the bead size used as a prebed material to support large desiccant beds or as a buffer for silica gel beads.
