The Van Air Systems MDV-400 Motorized Drain Valve is a workhorse.  This automatic drain reliably drains large volumes of condensate from compressed air system components such as moistures separators, deliquescent dryers, and air receiver tanks.

The MDV-400 consists of a high torque motor that turns a ball valve to the open or closed position based on user programmable timed cycles.  It is virtually clog proof.  The high torque motor allows the valve to “chomp though” pipe scale and oily liquid, contaminants which easily obstruct and foul level sensing and solenoid-type timer drains.  The MDV-400 is especially well suited to high condensate volume air systems, especially those with heavy scaling in pipes, tanks, and heat exchangers.

Ball valves are available in ½”, ¾”, and 1” NPT in either brass or stainless steel.

The MDV-400 auto drain valve can be purchased with two different control interfaces. The tamper proof “I” version has a set of dip switches within the control enclosure.  These switches can be set for intervals between valve actuations from 30 minutes to 30 hours. Adjustable draining periods are 5, 10, 15 and 20 seconds. Just set it and forget it.  The “I” version is approved for both indoor and outdoor use.

The “L” version has an LCD display and programming buttons on the top cover.  This allows for rapid adjustments in the control cycle.  (Some operators like that; others want to hide controls from “drive-by” adjustments by plant staff and thus prefer the “I” version.)  This “L” version has adjustable intervals between valve actuations from 1 minute to 99 hours 59 minutes. Adjustable draining periods are from 1 second to 99 minutes 59 seconds intervals. The display indicates the countdown to the next actuation or open time. This model is preferred when changing the cycles due to variations in condensate amounts, season changes for example helps reduce air loss.  The “L” version is approved for indoor use only.

Both versions can be controlled via a set of external contacts, which can in turn be wired, for example, to a tank level switch.  Thus the MDV-400 can also easily actuate on a demand basis.
